During the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that the Japanese publisher would be launching its own Nintendo Today app.
The new Nintendo Today app is designed to be a home for all things Nintendo, from the latest news, events, and fun content to keep fans engaged and entertained.
Gamers can now download the Nintendo Today app from both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, but is it worth downloading?

The Nintendo Today app is designed to be a place for Nintendo fans to go to keep up to date with everything going on relating to the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and in-person events, such as the Switch 2 Experiences that will be taking place across the world in the coming months.
Though with so many iconic franchises under its belt, there is a lot to keep up to date with, and Nintendo recognizes that not every gamer will be interested in everything that the company releases.
So, the Nintendo Today app can be customized with numerous themes based on popular franchises. Currently, players can choose between Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pikmin.

Players can also curate the information they receive on the Nintendo Today app, selecting games and franchises including;
- Super Mario
- The Legend of Zelda
- Animal Crossing
- Splatoon
- Pikmin
- Kirby
- Fire Emblem
- Metroid
- Xenoblade Chronicles
- Warioware
- Donkey Kong
- Classics

Once you have made your selections, your curated Nintendo Today feed will be live and you will be able to explore it. As the app has only been released today, there isn’t much content on it right now, with it just promoting the earlier Nintendo Direct presentation, and a few other fun pieces of content such as a Super Mario Bros. guide and a quiz.
Over time, the Nintendo Today app should become packed with content as it was explained that gamers would see daily news and content, with new trailers, screenshots, and key information being added hot off the press.
With so much going on, especially as the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 draws ever closer, it can be difficult to keep track of release dates, in-game events, and in-person events. So, Nintendo has added a calendar to help you keep on top of it.

Like your news feed, the calendar can also be curated to display just the content you are interested in. Users can select to display information on upcoming Nintendo Direct, Switch Online, and release dates.
If you want to go further, you can also include important dates for various games including Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart Tour, and Splatoon 3.

Overall, I would say that the Nintendo Today app is worth checking out, but I do suspect it will be one that you will find yourself not clicking on and spending more time swiping your notifications rather than engaging with them.
As time goes on and Nintendo fills the app with content, it could become a valuable resource for Nintendo fans, but I don’t see it having the long-term popularity that Nintendo hopes it will have. I will still be keeping the app installed on my phone though, in the hope that I’m wrong.
Also during the Nintendo Direct presentation, more information on titles such as Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A was released, as well as looks at upcoming titles including Tamagotchi Plaza.
One of the more exciting pieces of news is that Nintendo is set to release a new feature next month called Virtual Game Cards, which aims to make it easier to share your digital library with family and friends.
