With each new trailer and leak released for Pokemon Legends Z-A, the excitement and hype continues to build. Recent leaks have revealed that there will be approximately 30 Mega Evolutions in the game, including many unexpected inclusions such as Pyroar and Victreebell.
As with all Pokemon games, Legends Z-A will feature an expansive Pokedex, with players tasked with filling it with data of hundreds of Pokemon found throughout Kalos.
But, there is one popular Pokemon that first made an appearance in Kalos that won’t be showing up in the upcoming Legends Z-A, which is due out later this year.

Prominent Pokemon leaker Centroleaks was recently asked whether Ash’s Greninja would be making an appearance in the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, with the leaker giving an answer that can’t be misinterpreted, simply stating “No.”
Despite being a Gen 6 Pokemon and first appearing in the Pokemon The Series: XY, Ash’s Greninja didn’t appear in the video games until the following generation with the Pokemon Sun/Moon demo.
Players could use Ash’s Greninja while playing the demo, transfer it to the full game, and use it during the eighth-generation Pokemon Sword/Shield games.
To use Ash’s Greninja, if the base Pokemon had the Battle Bond ability, they could transform it into the boosted form by dealing damage with an attack move that caused a trainer’s Pokemon to faint. It would then revert to the original form once the battle concludes.
This would change in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet where Battle Bond instead increases Attack, Special Attack, and Speed.
Despite players not being able to use Ash’s Greninja in Pokemon Legends Z-A, there is even better news to look forward to. It has been leaked that Greninja will be receiving a Mega Evolution form alongside the other Gen 6 starters’ final evolutions, Chesnaught and Delphox.
This news comes as many new Mega Evolutions were leaked including Mega Dragonite, Starmie, Victreebell, and many others, with the current total being approximately 30 if all of the leaks turn out to be correct.
However, as with all leaks, take them with a grain of salt until officially confirmed by Nintendo, as things could change before the final build of Pokemon Legends Z-A is released.
Players won’t have too long to wait to find out which Pokemon will receive Mega Evolutions, as Pokemon Legends Z-A is set to hit stores before the end of 2025, with some theorizing that it could be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, also scheduled to release later this year,
Don’t worry though, if you are not planning on grabbing the new Nintendo Switch 2 this year, Pokemon Legends Z-A will also be released on the current Nintendo Switch as a dual release,
