The tenth generation of Pokemon games may be nowhere in sight, and Pokemon Legends Z-A is still a while off, but Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is packed full of content to keep players busy in the meantime.
Despite being a fun game to play, Pokemon Scarlet/Violet suffers from many performance issues due to the weak hardware found in the Nintendo Switch.
But with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, that is set to change as Pokemon Scarlet/Violet will receive an enhanced update.

The Japanese version of the official Nintendo website has listed some of the games that are set to receive enhanced updates for the Nintendo Switch 2.
One of these games is Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, the latest generation of mainline Pokemon games that was released back in 2022.
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet has been heavily criticized in the past for its poor frame rate and performance at times, as well as a dreadful amount of pop-in.
No details have been given regarding what these updates will be, but they will likely include improved frame rate, or at least more stable, higher resolution, and overall performance upgrades.
The confirmed list of Nintendo Switch games that will receive free updates include;
- ARMS
- Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker
- Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
- Soft Brain School – Let’s stretch our brains together
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
All of these games will be able to be updated at launch if you already own the game, and other titles are expected to follow too, including Xenoblade Chronicles X which has a hidden 60fps mode in the files.
The new Switch 2 enhanced updates come in two versions, paid vs free. Paid versions include Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will both feature improved visuals, resolution, HDR support, and more changes.
Nintendo Switch owners that upgrade to the new Switch 2 can pay a fee to upgrade games such as Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A, and Mario Party Jamboree, giving players access to performance and quality modes, HDR, improved resolutions, extra content, and more upgrades.
These can be compared to the paid next-gen upgrades that we’ve seen from PlayStation and Xbox for players making the jump to the latest PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Some of these games include God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us 2, where players with the PS4 versions of the games could pay a fee and upgrade to the PS5 version.
Other titles have received free updates such as Resident Evil 2 Remake and Doom Eternal, giving players an improved version of the game at no extra cost.
Players won’t have long to wait to jump into these new updated versions, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be released on June 5th, 2025, with Mario Kart World leading the charge as the first game ever announced for the system.
We may find out more information on these new enhanced updates later this week as Nintendo is set to host two Treehouse Live events on April 3rd and 4th.
