Capcom has been hitting it out the park time and time again when it comes to the past eight years of releases. From Resident Evil 7 to the latest Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom is on top form and the series is seeing its most success in its near 30 year history.
Although many fans would expect Resident Evil 5 Remake to be the next entry in the series, it looks like Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine may be reuniting…but in an earlier point in the timeline.
For many months, it has been rumored that Capcom is working on remaking the original Resident Evil game (for a second time) for the series’ 30th anniversary in 2026. And one of its voice actors has allegedly dropped a major hint.

U/1ceC0n took to Reddit to share a picture of themself with Jill Valentine voice actor Nicole Tompkins, who has voiced the legendary character in Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil Resistance, and Resident Evil Death Island. She also voiced Daniela Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village and various minor characters in the game.
In the post, they claim that when asked about Resident Evil 1 Remake…Remake? Nicole Tompkins winked, suggesting that the game is in development but she is unable to talk about it or outright confirm it.
Of course, being a Reddit post with nothing more than a recount of the poster, and no recording of Tompkins winking, this should be taken with a pinch of salt. But if this story is fake, it could be easily disputed, even by Tompkins herself who is very active on her Twitch channel and will no doubt be asked about the encounter.
If Nicole Tompkins outright disputes this interaction, we will update you with the latest news.
But for now, all signs do point to Resident Evil 1 Remake being in development, and it would make sense with the 30th anniversary right around the corner, especially as Capcom looks to bring all of the mainline entries into the modern era. Resident Evil 0, 1, and Code Veronica remain the only old-style tank control + fixed camera angle games and now seem dated compared to the modern releases, although remain incredibly popular with players.
Time will tell as to what Capcom’s next plans are, but we do know that Resident Evil 9 is in active development, as was confirmed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi.
